In her own words…
“My name is Evelyn Doyle and am lucky to live in Canberra, Australia which houses the National Art Gallery, National Library and Portrait Gallery so there is always something happening in the arts community.
I am currently devoting most of my time to establishing and growing my vintage Etsy shop, MuskRoseVintage.
My shop is a place to find vintage and antiques and I try to keep an eclectic range to suit all tastes and budgets though I am slowly increasing my antique selection and want to increase the range of vintage books.
I love paper ephemera such as postcards and old papers which I also sell in the shop. Documents, postcards and other ephemera tell us so much about the past and what it might have been like to live in those times.
Most of my stock at the moment is jewellery including antique, vintage and retro. Jewellery is popular and I like finding lovely and unusual pieces to keep the range interesting. I don’t see myself as having a particular speciality because I like to promote a variety of items and the range is ever-changing.
I really enjoy using Polyvore to promote not only my own items, but to help support other shops in the Etsy community as well. Polyvore is another way to explore a creative outlet for art and design. It can be quite addictive so I have to pace myself.
I studied art throughout my life & have done short courses in painting and drawing. I was drawn to mixed media primarily because it is fun to use other objects to make a painting, but I don’t limit myself to one style – i like exploring abstract art, mixed media, traditional landscapes & still life. At the moment I am in a mixed media phase, recently changing from my lifetime love of oils to acrylics which I find work better in creating my mixed media art.
My personal style is eclectic. It changes depending on whatever inspiration takes hold at the time. Dressing down in casual jeans and a ts- I do enjoy dressing up to go out and have a small collection of vintage and handmade jewellery that I enjoy wearing.
Local trends? Coffee, beards, retro and vintage are big at the moment.
There are so many experienced and talented people on Polyvore and we can all learn from each other. As a relative newcomer I would just say enjoy the process of creating, try different items and embellishments until something works for you. Don’t be scared to try something different, as sometimes the end result can be surprising.
My mother was a great source of inspiration as she had great style. The gene for collecting interesting old wares must have originated with her fascination for found objects.
One of my favorite artist is Australian artist Margaret Olley who was famous for her still life. Her use of colour was unique and she used a loose style which I found very appealing.

My home is filled to the brim with books some going back to my 70s university days. I collect anything I can use as a photography backdrop for my shop or interesting items to paint or use for painting such as shells, bits of wood, plant matter and stones. “
